The FISPACT-II user manual contains a detailed 'getting started' section with numerous example simulations. These are included in the installation media within the /getting_started/ directory. A short overview is provided here which mirrors that section.

FISPACT-II can perform many types of simulations, but the most common is composed of four stages:

  • Process the library data
    • Collapse the cross-section data with incident particle spectra
    • Condense the decay and fission yield data
    • Print summary of library and simulation-specific collapsed data
  • Set the initial conditions
  • Run irradiation (heating) phase(s)
  • Run cooling phase(s)

While these can be performed with one input, it is illustrative to separate out components. As a first example, we suggest walking through a simulation of an irradiation of Inconel performed at the JAEA Fusion Neutron Source. After this first example, there are more example simulations which are distributed with the official FISPACT-II release. These are described in their own pages below:
